MIDIGrade for DaVinci Resolve: Grade with a Gamepad

February 28, 20264 min read

MIDIGrade® is software is a controller solution for DaVinci Resolve. It turns an Xbox controller into a professional color grading surface for DaVinci Resolve. Gamepad MIDI v1.3.1 ships the full layout as a built-in template — one click and your controller is ready.

What the template maps

Every button, trigger, and stick is mapped to a specific DaVinci Resolve action. The left stick drives click-and-drag adjustments using split-axis mode — push left or right and you get independent CC messages in each direction, letting Resolve's drag-to-adjust controls respond naturally.

💡 Split axis mode

Both sticks use split-axis mode so each direction sends its own independent CC. This matches the way MIDIGrade expects the input — nudging the stick left and right produces distinct CC messages that map to separate drag actions in Resolve, rather than a single bipolar CC.

Device profile switches automatically

Applying the MIDIGrade template also sets the active device profile to MIDIGrade – DaVinci Resolve. That means every CC in the mapping editor immediately shows its Resolve action name — no need to set the profile separately.
