Getting started

Install

Download Mobile MIDI from the App Store.

First launch

On first launch you'll see a short two-screen introduction:

  1. Your phone is a MIDI controller — a quick overview of what the app does.
  2. Four ways to play — Touch, Move, Express, Sense.

Tap GET STARTED to enter the app. You'll land on the Settings tab so you can pick a MIDI destination.

The onboarding only shows once. You can safely skip it.

Your first MIDI note — in 60 seconds

  1. Open a DAW on your computer (Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, etc.) and arm a MIDI track.
  2. In Mobile MIDI, go to the Settings tab.
  3. Connect to a MIDI destination — see Connecting to your DAW.
  4. Once connected you'll see a green CONNECTED box naming your device.
  5. Switch to the Touch tab → tap a pad.
  6. Your DAW plays the note.

If that works, you're done setting up. If not, see Troubleshooting.

The four tabs

Mobile MIDI is organized into four tabs at the bottom of the screen:

  • Touch — playable surfaces: pads, keys, XY, faders, and your own custom layouts.
  • Sensors — the phone's 6-axis motion plus extra sources like compass, shake, battery, and barometer.
  • Tracking — face tracking, hand tracking, and AirPods head motion.
  • Settings — presets and MIDI device connection.

Keeping the screen on

Mobile MIDI automatically prevents your screen from sleeping while the app is open. This is useful during a performance — your phone won't lock mid-song.
