FAQ

Does it work with my DAW?

Mobile MIDI sends standard MIDI messages, so it works with any DAW that accepts MIDI input. Tested and confirmed working with:

  • Ableton Live (10, 11, 12)
  • Logic Pro
  • FL Studio
  • Bitwig Studio
  • Cubase
  • Reaper
  • GarageBand (iOS and macOS)

Hardware synths also work as long as they have a MIDI input (USB or BLE).

Is there a free trial?

Mobile MIDI is a one-time purchase through the App Store. There's no free trial, but the App Store's standard refund policy applies.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Mobile MIDI runs on iPad but was designed portrait-first for iPhone. Most features work identically on iPad. Face tracking requires a TrueDepth-equipped iPad (iPad Pro 11-inch 2018+ or iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd gen+).

Can I use multiple MIDI destinations at once?

Currently Mobile MIDI sends to one destination at a time. If you need to drive multiple synths, use a DAW as your router.

Does it record MIDI?

No — Mobile MIDI is a controller, not a sequencer. It sends MIDI in real time; record the output in your DAW.

Can I use it as a MIDI input to another iOS app?

Yes. When Mobile MIDI is connected to iOS's MIDI subsystem (via BLE, or USB to a host), other iOS apps like GarageBand, Korg Gadget, AUM, or Cubasis can receive its output.

Does it support Inter-App Audio / Audio Unit?

Mobile MIDI is a MIDI source, not an audio generator or processor. Route its MIDI into any AU-compatible synth in another app.

How many notes can I play at once?

  • Without MPE: as many as your screen supports (typically 10 simultaneous touches).
  • With MPE: up to 15 simultaneously sounding notes, since MPE reserves channels 2–16 and reuses the oldest.

Does it send MIDI clock?

Not in this version — it's a controller only, no clock source. If you need clock, run it from your DAW or a dedicated clock source.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Mobile MIDI doesn't collect or transmit anything. See the Privacy policy.

Is this open source?

Not at present. Pounding Systems may open-source components in the future.

What's next for Mobile MIDI?

On the roadmap: richer face/hand tracking mappings, LiDAR spatial input, and more presets and templates. No promises on timelines — we ship when it's ready.
