Motion and sensors

The Sensors tab turns the phone's motion sensors and device state into MIDI — with no touch input required. Great for live expression, ambient control, or just surprising your producer friends.

Device motion — 6 axes

At the top of the Sensors tab you'll find the built-in device motion card with six axes:

  • Accelerometer X / Y / Z — linear motion, including gravity.
  • Gyroscope X / Y / Z — rotation around each axis.

Each axis shows its raw value, a normalized 0–1 bar, and the current CC value it's sending. Tilt, rotate, or shake the phone and watch the bars move in real time.

Per-axis configuration

Tap an axis to open its configuration:

  • Enable / disable — only active axes send MIDI.
  • Filter — EMA smoothing to soften jitter.
  • Deadzone — ignore small movements around rest.
  • Mapping — which CC, note, or pitch-bend message this axis drives.

Use START / STOP to turn the whole sensor stream on or off.

Extra control sources

Tap + Add Source to open the source catalog. Each source you add becomes its own card on the Sensors tab. Available sources (device dependent):

Motion

  • Tilt — pitch and roll of the phone.
  • Shake — pulse fires when the phone is shaken above a threshold. Useful as a trigger.
  • Compass — magnetic heading 0°–360°.
  • Barometer — air pressure (drifts when you change altitude — walk up stairs, go in an elevator).
  • Gravity X / Y / Z — the gravity vector, separate from linear acceleration.

Environment

  • Available sources will grow in future updates.

Device

  • Battery — current battery percentage (0 = empty, 1 = full).
  • Charging state — pulses 1 while charging, 0 while on battery.
  • Brightness — your system brightness slider, useful for tying visuals to sound.
  • Thermal — the iOS thermal state (nominal / fair / serious / critical). Probably most useful as a gimmick.

Tracking (see Face and hand tracking)

  • Face blendshapes and hand gestures are listed here but managed in the Tracking tab.

Filters and mapping

Each source has the same mapping options as a motion axis — enable, filter, deadzone, map to a CC / note / pitch-bend, and pick a MIDI channel.

Permissions

The first time you enable any motion source, iOS will prompt for Motion & Fitness access. Accept to continue. If you deny, motion sources won't produce data — you can re-grant access in Settings → Privacy → Motion & Fitness → Mobile MIDI.
